First Visit vs. Follow-Up Pricing

Your first visit costs $150 and runs a full 60 minutes — twice as long as a follow-up, because it does twice the work. Before a single needle is placed, one of our licensed practitioners takes a complete health history and builds the treatment plan every later session runs on. That first hour includes:

  • A full health history and consultation about what brought you in
  • Pulse and tongue assessment — standard Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnostics
  • Your first full acupuncture treatment
  • A plain-English plan: recommended visit frequency and what we expect to see, honestly stated

Follow-up sessions cost $100 for 30 minutes. Shorter, because the diagnostic work is already done — your practitioner reviews how you responded, adjusts the point selection, and treats. Most people settle into a weekly rhythm at first, then space visits out. If a different cadence makes sense for you, we'll say so at the first visit, not after you've paid for ten.

Is acupuncture worth the cost?

Honest answer: it depends on what you're treating and what you're comparing it to. Research reviewed by the NCCIH suggests acupuncture may help some people with certain chronic pain conditions, and many patients find a course of care worth trying before more invasive options. It is not a cure, and nobody can guarantee your result — some people notice a change within 4 to 6 visits, others don't respond, and acupuncture never replaces care from your physician. What we can promise is transparent math: you'll know the full cost of a recommended course before you commit, and if it isn't helping, we'll tell you rather than keep booking you. See the full list of acupuncture services we offer or read what to expect at your first visit.

Treatment Packages

Acupuncture tends to work as a course, not a one-off — which is exactly why the package exists. Five follow-up sessions cost $400 instead of $500. Do the division: $400 ÷ 5 = $80 per visit, a 20% saving over paying session by session.

Package options

OptionYou payPer visit
Single follow-up · 30 minutes$100$100
Package of 5 sessions · 30 minutes each$400$80

Massage has its own version. Buy a package of 5 or more massage sessions and you're automatically a member — no signup form, no membership fee. Members pay $80 instead of $100 per 60-minute massage, and cupping, gua sha, and hot stone add-ons become free. Add-On Services (Cupping, Gua Sha, Hot Stone)

Three add-ons can ride along with any massage for $20 each — cupping therapy, gua sha, and hot stone. Members pay nothing for any of them. They're added in the same appointment, so there's no second booking and no second trip up Chain Bridge Rd.

A few services are quoted individually rather than listed at a flat rate: facial acupuncture and standalone gua sha & hot stone programs. These depend on your consultation — a facial rejuvenation series and a one-off recovery session are very different plans — so you'll get a personalized quote at your consultation. Call or text 240-715-5939 and we'll walk you through it before you book anything.

HSA, FSA & the fine print

HSA and FSA cards generally work here, since acupuncture is typically a qualified medical expense — confirm the specifics with your plan administrator, and we'll give you an itemized receipt either way. — Questions

Asked & answered.

How much does acupuncture cost in McLean, VA?
At Harmony Acupuncture & Wellness Spa, an initial acupuncture visit costs $150 for 60 minutes and a follow-up costs $100 for 30 minutes. A package of 5 follow-up sessions is $400, which brings the cost down to $80 per visit. Massage is $100 for 60 minutes — $80 for members — and cupping, gua sha, or hot stone add-ons are $20 each, free for members.
Does insurance change what I pay?
Often, yes. We accept UnitedHealthcare and Aetna, and insurance patients pay $0 at the time of booking — sessions are billed through your plan, so your real cost is your copay or coinsurance. Text a photo of your card to 240-715-5939 for a free benefits check, or read our full acupuncture insurance coverage guide first.
Can I pay for acupuncture with an HSA or FSA card?
In most cases, yes. Acupuncture is generally treated as a qualified medical expense, so HSA and FSA debit cards typically work at checkout, and we provide an itemized receipt for your records. A few plan administrators handle it differently, so a quick call to the number on your card is worth making before your first visit.
Is there a cheaper way to pay for ongoing care?
The 5-session acupuncture package is the main one: $400 instead of $500, or $80 per visit. On the massage side, buying a package of 5 or more sessions makes you a member automatically — no fee, no signup — which drops massage to $80 per 60 minutes and makes every add-on free.
